This Fixer Upper inspired wall decor using random letters added a fun and personal touch to our family room.
The evolution of this wall began when I realized how even with a 60″ flat screen tv, the wall it sat on seemed very bare….and looked so in pictures.
I found the barn wood wall hangings at our AtHome store and initially purchased them for our formal area but they looked much better in our family room. I already had wood pieces in the room and the wall hangings just tied it all together perfectly. Not to mention the colors were my exact colors for the room.
After the wood hangings went up, I kept brainstorming for above the tv. I had been channeling my inner JoJo and knew I wanted a word up there but hubby and I just couldn’t come to an agreement on what word to use. We already had a sign that read, “Family” at the entrance of the room so we didn’t want to use it again.
Then one day, hubby asked me what I thought about using our last name along with the year we got married. I thought it was brilliant! Now to find the perfect letters.
To find some random letters I had planned on going junkin’ (much like JoJo does) but when I went to visit the brand new AtHome store that opened just down the street from me, I came across an entire aisle full of letters and guess what? They were all in my color scheme for the family room!
While my girls were contained in the cart, giggling and carrying on and asking me a million times if we were leaving yet, I laid various letters out on the floor until I found the perfect combo and then texted hubby a pic. Thankfully, he approved so I loaded up my cart and headed to the checkout! By this time I couldn’t handle anymore whining from the twinsies so I was ready to get the heck out of there.
I ended up not buying an ‘M’ because I had just purchased one on clearance at Hobby Lobby.
While hubby was hanging the letters, I hopped on my computer and designed the little established sign. Once he was done he went out to the barn and whipped up a little frame for it.
I am so thrilled at how it turned out! I would classify my style as farmhouse glam with a little more glam so I love the fun element that it adds to the room and makes it feel a little less formal. It is a family room after all!
Thankfully, our name is nice and short or I don’t know how we would have pulled this off. Some smaller letters maybe?
This wall is almost complete now. I just need a chair for that corner by the window so it doesn’t look so empty.
UPDATE: I have a chair to fill that corner! You can see it HERE.
