Hi and welcome to our family room. I hope you enjoy the tour!
When we moved in two years ago, I had it in my head that I would post a tour of each room as we finished decorating. However, here we are two years later and I don’t consider any of the rooms completely finished. Even as I thought a room was finished, I would come up with another idea.
I’m coming to the realization that no room in our house will ever be finished….and I’m ok with that.
We are getting really close to having a sense of completion with the family room. There’s a corner that needs a chair and I’m trying to wrap my head around trying to fit some bookcases somewhere because even though we don’t read much (because, hello, 5 year old twins), we do have lots of books. Books I can’t seem to bring myself to part with.
There are definitely touches of us and our family history in this room. On the media cabinet, there’s a globe, a postcard sized map that we picked up on one of my most favorite vacations and books up to 100 years old that were inherited from family members. There is a cabinet by the back door where my grandmother’s hymnal and bible rest. One of my most beloved treasures.
That tin box holds all the ultrasounds of our girls. Something that I am so thankful survived the tornado.
The wooden candelabra was a treasure found in my grandpa’s barn. Initially I wanted to paint it but after cleaning it up, I loved the chippy wood look.
This old Brownie camera was given to me by my brother-in-law. It was his daddy’s camera. After his daddy passed away, he gave me that camera so it holds a special place in my heart and in our family room.
We recently added our family name above the TV for a fun element. It may or may not have been inspired by Fixer Upper. Ok, it was totally inspired by Fixer Upper.
Our family room is by far the most used room in our house. Well, second to the kitchen, of course. We have spent many hours lounging on the couch watching TV or sitting by the fire. It’s also one of my favorite places to sit with my laptop to do some work.
The large windows look out onto our back yard. I have spent hours on the couch watching the girls play outside and watching storms roll in from the south. In the summer, at dusk, I like to watch the lightning bugs light up our yard.
I hope you enjoyed the tour. Feel free to ask any questions about the room in the comments. I will be more than happy to answer.

Can you give me some info on your media console? I have been looking for something just like that.

Hi! I purchased it from HomeGoods. I’m not sure of the brand. I’m sorry. 🙁
