Tassels aren’t just for party decor. They can be used in home decor, on clothing and in a hundred other projects. Learn how to make these yarn tassels in 3 easy steps!
When I think of tassels I always think of the big heavy rope kind that are used for curtain tie backs. I’ve never been a huge fan of those. However, these adorable yarn tassels are something I can get excited about.
Since I am a crafty person, I tend to be a sucker for homemade decor. When I learned how to make tissue paper tassels for party garlands, I thought they were a pretty tedious thing to make. However, when I attempted making them with yarn, I became hooked! They are so easy to make! They are much easier than the tissue paper kind. I think you’ll agree.
DIY Yarn Tassels
Materials:
- Yarn
- Scissors
- Your hand or a piece of cardboard cut to the desired length of your tassel
Directions:
Wrap yarn around cardboard (or fingers) about 50-60 times (more if you want it thicker).
Take a short piece of yarn, slide it through the wrapped yarn and tie a knot.
Slide wrapped yarn off of fingers or cardboard and using another piece of yarn the length of the tassel (or a bit longer) tie a knot around the top (about 1/2″ down from the top).
Trim any excess so that it will blend in with the rest of the yarn.
How easy was that?! I bet you’ll now be making so many you won’t know what to do with them! No worries though, that’s what I’m here for. I can guarantee that I will be posting ideas in the future for these little darlings.
