With a little bit of Halloween decor and a raid of my crafting stash, I created a fun and spooky Halloween mantle!
Yesterday, a cold front came through making our weather actually feel like fall. The day before it was 85 and then yesterday I’m not even sure we made it out of the 50’s. This coming Monday it’s supposed to be 90. Living in the south is rough y’all!
Since we are having a cold spell, I decided to take advantage and make chicken enchilada soup for dinner and then had myself a mocha.
While our soup was simmering on the stove, I hallow-fied the family room by decorating the mantle. I never really decorated for Halloween until we had our girls. They love Halloween so I agreed to decorate as long as it wasn’t scary decor. The last thing I need is two already dramatic five year old girls waking up with nightmares.
Since we’ve had to start all over with our holiday decor, we don’t have much. I bought a few pieces last year and we are currently on a spending freeze so we don’t have much in the way of Halloween decor.
For the base, I remembered that I had a roll of black tulle so I dug it out of my stash and began to just bunch it up and placed my decor on top, tweaking here and there. I used candle sticks and a mini cake stand to add height and of course I had to incorporate my spooky luminaries.
The wall on either side of the mirror felt blank to me so I whipped up the trick or treat printable and hung it about half way up.
For the other side, I added some dimensional bats (every one else is doing it so why not?) that I just cut out of cardstock. I thought briefly about doing spiders but who am I kidding, I can’t do spiders….they make my skin crawl. The only spiders I can tolerate are the cute spiders with those silly googly eyes.
The girls were playing in their room while I was decorating so they had no clue what I was doing. They were both excited when they saw what I had done. It looks pretty neat lit up at night. Next year I may add some string lights to make the whole mantle glow.
Almost all of the items are from Hobby Lobby (half off sale), Target dollar spot or the Dollar Tree. The luminaries and printable were handmade by me.
