Outdoor projects have taken priority now that the weather is warmer and since we already had some outdoor furniture on our barn porch, that was one of the first places we started decorating.
My girls like to play outside all. day. long. and since they are still young…
and we live on an acreage (with no fenced in yard)…
and we live on a pretty busy main road…
so we like to keep a close eye on them by being outside with them either working on the yard or just chilling and watching them play.
We can see the entire yard from our barn porch so it was the ideal place to set up a comfy seating area to watch our girls play.
Decorating a Barn Porch
When we moved back into our home, we went ahead an purchased a few outdoor pieces. A patio set was one of our purchases and while we meant for it to be on one of our other porches, we found that it works better for our barn porch.
We also installed lighting last year. I love the ambiance it brings to the porch.
We were able to recover our outdoor fireplace from the tornado destruction and last fall we placed it at the end of our porch on the barn. It still needs a little sprucing up but that’s another project for another day. The important part is that it’s still functional.
After a few tries at arranging the furniture, I finally found an arrangement that seems to work. It’s close enough to the fireplace to keep warm on chilly evenings and angled just right to be able to see the entire back yard.
I’m working on accessorizing with pillows an plants to make it feel as cozy as possible. I shopped our barn and came across a couple of plant stands we previously used as speaker stands and purposed them back into plant stands. I like the height they give to the space.
A Target dollar spot watering can filled with some wild flowers from our field and some previously purchased table top Tiki torches complete the space.
Now I just need a rug to pull it all together. I’ve had my eye on this one since the beginning of Spring but it has been sold out locally. I’m hoping it will go on clearance by the end of Summer and I can snag it then.
The entire porch is 40′ long by 10′ wide so I have plans to add a farm style table and chairs. The table is on the every growing “honey-do” list.
But first…..we have to get that barn cleaned out so we he can have a place to work!
