I got sick the day after Thanksgiving and up until this past weekend, I hadn’t done any of the decorating I’d hoped to have done. I finally got around to decorating our family room on Sunday. It only took a couple of shopping trips and a day of decorating.
When I thought about posting a tour of our family room all decorated for Christmas, I decided to do a twilight tour. There’s just something about Christmas lights that make Christmas more magical than it already is. Am I right?
Team Christmas lights all year long!
Ok, moving along….
In sticking with my theme that the family room is for well, family, I am keeping my whimsical Christmas decor. My girls love it which means I love it too.
Our mantle is, of course, one of my favorite spots to decorate. This year I designed some prints to frame for the mantle. They turned out exactly how I had envisioned them. These prints are also available in my Etsy shop. We had some elf style stockings before but lost them with the rest of our Christmas decor. I loved them so much that I searched and searched for more just like them before finally finding some similar stockings at Target.
On one of my shopping trips I picked up two basic green Christmas wreaths with the intention of hanging them on my wood panels on either side of the TV. I thought about decorating them but we decided we liked the simplicity of just the green. To add a little more Christmas to this wall, I added pops of red by tying Christmas ribbon around the tops of my lanterns and adding some decor with red to the shelves on the media cabinet.
We bought our 9′ skinny tree the year we moved back into our house. I’ve always loved the skinny trees because they can fit just about anywhere but seeing all the full flocked trees this year is making me want one really bad. However, I’m not a huge fan of decorating the tree….I mean, I like them decorated, I just don’t like the actual act of decorating the trees. LOL I’ll put vignettes together all day long but tell me I have to decorate a tree and I’ll procrastinate for days. There are just some details I don’t like to bother with.
I hung our advent calendar above the dresser behind our sectional. It seemed like a good place for it. I’ll have a tutorial for it soon.
I hope you enjoyed the twilight tour of our family room. We love being in here all year but there’s just something about the Christmas lights, decor and sitting by the cozy fire that makes us spend even more time in this room.
