Decorating on a budget can sometimes be tricky. However, if you are open to using thrifted, gifted or items you already own in your decor, you can make your budget go a long way.
It’s a little known fact that after we moved into our house, we had a very limited budget to furnish the entire house. The budget was so limited that we didn’t even get the whole house furnished. Even now, over two years later, I am still living with tornado ravaged furniture in the master bedroom.
I have done my best to stay in my decorating budget (when I have one). When there is no budget, I go foraging through things we have packed away or sometimes things are gifted to me that I can use in my decor.
Decorating on a Budget: Found and Foraged
Here are three things you can use to decorate that can be found, foraged or thrifted.
Books
Old books are on trend right now in decorating. Especially if your style is eclectic or farmhouse. If the books aren’t necessarily “vintage”, you can still put book covers on them and use them in your decor. Turning the spine to the back is also an option that is trendy right now.
Hand-Me-Downs
You know those items passed down from friends and family that you keep in a cabinet never to be seen except for “special occasions”? Pull them out and use them in your decor!
Old (no longer your style) Decor
Instead of getting rid of that decor that doesn’t really fit your current style, see if you can somehow update it to make it fit your style. Simply adding some paint can make a big difference!
In keeping an open mind, you can find many low cost or free options for decorating your home. What are your favorite found, foraged or thrifted items that you’ve used to decorate?

I love the ideas you have here. My niece taught me about decorating with books. I love the old bible! – Would love to have you share on the Pleasures of the NW’s DIY party!
