As I mentioned in my goals for 2017, we have a huge list of DIY projects that we want to tackle. We have taken that list and prioritized the projects that we would like to complete this year.
Painting
First off is painting our ceilings. In the past year, I’ve noticed that even though we have lots of windows, it always feels really dark in most of the house. I started out wanting to just paint the walls but I really like my colors so we are going to start with lightening the ceilings and see if that helps.
We are currently to the point of needing to get samples of the colors we’ve chosen. This is going to be a HUGE job so I need to make sure I get the color right.
Building
When we had to get rid of the girls upholstered beds I was devastated. However, I found a bed that I love but the cost of just one twin bed is astronomical so we are going to try to build a knock off version. This, in turn, will likely lead to a complete re-do of their room. You can take a tour of the girls’ room HERE.
Decor
We are still in the process of furnishing and decorating our home. There are several areas that are bare or just not quite right. I still haven’t finished my kitchen gallery wall and two of our bedrooms haven’t even been touched. I get a little impatient that the house isn’t finished but I have to keep reminding myself that it took us 14 years to accumulate the stuff we lost so I can’t expect to have it all replaced as quickly as I’d like. Patience isn’t a virtue I possess but I’m working on it.
So here are the items we are focusing on this year:
I really, really, really want to replace the lights over our island. I have a light in mind that I’m having trouble finding at an affordable price. I’m not giving up though. I’ve learned if I’m patient enough I will find exactly what I want at the price I want.
There is a wall in our dining room that I rarely show because well, it’s bare. I have a lot of pieces that I wouldn’t mind having on display so I’m picturing a long open shelf server and some semi-rustic shelving above it. I’ve been on the look out for a server but haven’t been able to find one yet that is long enough. I really like this one by Liz Marie.
Landscaping
In terms of landscaping, our yard has been somewhat neglected since we moved in almost three years ago. Last year, I finally started testing out plants in two smaller flower beds in our back yard. This year, I hope to at least get a foundation for the huge flower bed that runs along the front of our house. We also need to start replacing some trees we lost in the last tornado.
And that is our project list for this year. Anything extra that gets done is just a bonus! Also, in between these projects I hope to start organizing one drawer/closet/cabinet at a time. Some of the spaces in this house have just gotten out of control and need some good re-organizing attention.
