Pom poms are cute, have been around forever and can be used in a variety of ways. They are also easier to make than you might think!
Until I learned how to make pop poms, the idea of making my own seemed like such a complicated and labor intensive task. However, once I finally learned how to make them I was kicking myself for not learning sooner. They are so easy and fun to make!
You can make pom poms with a variety of different tools. There are pom pom maker tools that you can buy or you can use things you likely already have sitting around your house (like cardboard or forks). You can even use your hand! Just keep in mind the size of the pom pom will depend on the size of the tool you use. For example, using a fork will make a pretty small pom pom but if you use a piece of cardboard, you can cut it to any size you want.
In this post, I am going to demonstrate how to make a pom pom using a fork.
DIY Pom Poms Using a Fork
Wrap yarn or string around any size fork (the smaller the fork width, the smaller the pom pom) about 50-60 times
Wrap a short piece of yarn/string around the middle and tie a knot as tight as possible.
Slide yarn off of fork and cut the loops on each side.
Trim yarn to make your finished pom pom look more uniform.
*Tip: To fluff and make your pom pom look more uniform, roll the pom pom in your hand like when you are rolling dough into a ball then trim again if needed.
Now that you know how to make pom poms, the possibilities are endless to what you can make with them! I love using them to make garlands and am thinking about making a wreath for spring. What will you make?
