Creating a gallery wall can be as simple as taking inspiration from your photos and decor.
Inspired by Music
There is a wall in our current formal living space that used to be the TV/media wall in our main living room before our rebuild. When it came to decorating the space, I wasn’t sure what I was going to do on this wall and then not long after we moved in, we inherited a piano.
Once we got the piano, I knew I wanted something music related on the wall. The ‘It is Well’ piece was my initial inspiration for the wall and since it’s one of my favorite hymns, I decided to incorporate more into the layout. I created three prints with lyrics from more of my favorite hymns.
A gallery wall that tells a story
A few weeks later I was digging through boxes out in our barn and I came across some old family pictures. I immediately had a vision for the piano wall!
As I sat there going through tons and tons of old pictures and thinking about the hymn lyrics I chose, I realized I was creating a story on this wall so I decided that I wanted a few pictures of my girls on this wall along with the old family photos. After all, they are a big part of our story.
I once again headed out to the barn and went digging around to find all of the black frames we had. Once I brought them in and got them cleaned up, I started laying them out on the floor in front of the wall where I wanted to hang them. It took a couple trips to Hobby Lobby and a few attempts on the positioning of everything before I came up with the perfect layout.
I scanned and printed the old pictures to the sizes I needed, put them in their frames and hung them all up on the wall.
I am so happy with the way this gallery wall turned out and when first time guests come into our home, almost every one has mentioned this wall. I love how it tells a story of our family.
