Its been one year since I decided to design a home library and posted my inspiration post. One year later and I’m happy to say that our home library area is ninety-nine percent done!
Welcome to Our Home Library!
If you go back and ready my inspiration post, you’ll know that we had most of the pieces for this space. We just needed to fill up the blank wall with some form of built-ins or a piece of furniture.
The focal point
After stalking thrift stores for a while, I finally found a piece that I thought might work. I had wanted something a little bigger but as it turns out, this piece fit perfectly in the space! It had the lines I wanted and was vintage but also a little bit modern.
Next, I needed to decide on a paint color. In my inspiration post, I fell in love with the navy hutch so it didn’t take long for me to settle on my new favorite shade of navy. Because I wanted the books and decor to stand out (hello it is a library after all…gotta focus on the books!), I went with a very light shade of grey for the inside.
Deciding on the hardware for this piece was so tricky. I purchased and returned several knobs and handles before deciding on keeping some of the vintage hardware and mixing it with some new more modern hardware to give it the glam look I wanted.
Lighting
Lighting was not a difficult decision for me. I knew I wanted swing arm style wall mounted lamps. We were able to get lights very similar to these at a really great price! They come with a dial switch but it was hard turning them on with the switch being behind the chairs so we recently purchased floor switches.
We already the other big items such as the chairs and the rug…I just needed to add the finishing decor touches. The biggest difference maker with the decor was filling the bookshelves with all the colorful books! At first I wanted to have them all neutral…I even contemplated covering them all with kraft paper book covers. But that would have been A LOT of work and I just don’t have time for all that.
