Everyone has been posting their One Room Challenge pics and I’m all over here dreaming about maybe one day finishing my Master Bedroom.
Why is it that the master bedroom is the last to get decorated?
I think it was last year I created a mood board but it has since has been thrown out the window and I now have a new plan.
My biggest challenge has been the layout of the room. The bed has a permanent spot right between two windows so I don’t want to move it. The room is also a really long rectangle with two doors on one wall and windows on two walls. You wouldn’t think it would be that hard but having to work with the furniture I already have has also been big challenge for me.
After many sketches and playing around with different apps and sites for layout design, I finally came up with a layout that we like!
Let’s start by taking a look at it when we first moved in…..when it was empty, because trust me, no one wants to see it in it’s current state.
Just for fun, let’s look at how it was before the tornado/rebuild.
When we built the house, we thought the master bedroom was huge! Looking at it now compared to today, it seems so small. And what was I thinking with all that orange-y pine?! My how my style has changed.
Ok, here is how it looked after the rebuild…the day we moved in. What a difference, right?! Hubby did a good job planning the add-ons and additions. We bumped out that wall with the arched window about 6 feet. Now the master bedroom feels really big….which hasn’t worked out to be a good thing….yet.
After playing around with RoomStyler, I came up with this layout. It’s along the same lines of my original vision just with a little bit different furniture placement.
I still plan to keep the medium gray walls. We get so much natural light in the room that it doesn’t ever feel that dark.
Also, since we have a very small budget (none, right now…which is why I’m dreaming for the moment), we will likely use the furniture we already have but will give it a face lift. I will need to add a chest of drawers and a small table for the wall between the bathroom and closet. Then, of course, I need to add some decor elements & accessories. I will be on the lookout for these things while I’m out junkin.
For the curtains, I plan to make some drop cloth curtains. I’m really excited about this part!
Ok so if I had an unlimited budget, these are some of the items I would buy (or something similar) for the room.
I currently have the bed and ottoman pictured below.

While the room is very neutral, I do plan to add soft pops of color with the accessories and some wall decor. I’d love to hear what you think about my design plan!
