If you caught my Instagram Stories a few days ago, you may have already gotten a peek at my tablescape.
When we re-built our house, I pictured our dining room big and open with a giant table that could fit all of our family. It, of course, would house the adult table for all the holidays that I planned to host.
Fast forward two years and I still have yet to host a sit down meal at that table with actual place settings. There are three reasons for this. First, we always do a buffet style meal and it’s usually on paper plates. Second, I haven’t really had anything needed to do a table setting. Lastly, I have room for 8 place settings and could potentially go up to 10 so to buy things for that many place settings all at once would cost a small fortune. I mean, have you seen the price of even just simple placemats lately?!
So for the past few weeks I’ve been trying to figure out how I could create a pretty table setting.
I started with making an inexpensive centerpiece and setting it on a table runner. I really liked how it turned out but I still hadn’t solved the issue of people actually eating at the table.
When the fall decor came out at Target, over time I picked up a few things in the dollar spot such as placemats, napkins and napkin rings. I had a vision but when I got it all home and tried to put it all together, it just didn’t work for fall.
At a trip to Hobby Lobby I had spotted a charger that I fell in love with so over a few weeks, I used my 40% off coupon and collected the amount I needed for place settings.
Since the placemats didn’t work, I decided to forgo them altogether and use one of my table cloths paired with the new chargers. Then, to stick with my navy & orange color scheme, I used two styles of napkins and the galvanized napkin rings that I had picked up at Target.
Finally, just days before Thanksgiving, my table has come together! It’s very simple and beautiful (in my opinion). Tomorrow (Thanksgiving), I will add stemware, utensils and my recently inherited dishes from my grandma. With two very energetic and curious 5 year olds, it’s not practical to set those things out so early.
And yes, that’s a little bit of Christmas that snuck out early. If a Christmas tree isn’t decorated is it still a Christmas tree? Anyway, the lights will just add to the ambiance of our Thanksgiving meal.
Oh, and I was in Hobby Lobby one day right when they had marked down their fall stuff 80%! There might have been a couple of things that jumped in my cart so I dressed up the buffet a little more.
